The main role of a flower girl is to look cute and adorable walking down the aisle and in your wedding photos. Most couples have one flower girl, but if your adult bridesmaids have children or you’re lucky enough to have lots of nieces, there’s nothing stopping you from having a whole gaggle of them.

Flower girls tend to be under the age of seven. Girls above this age are usually called junior bridesmaids. A flower girl may wear a white dress or something fun and sparkly. Junior bridesmaids tend to wear the same colour as older bridesmaids, although often in a different style of dress.

Florals for Your Flower Girls

There are so many pretty options for your flower girls. Here are a few ideas to get you started…

  • Flower Crowns – I always suggest using delicate lightweight flowers such as lisianthus, spray roses or waxflower. These will be easy to wear and will also stand up to the heat.
  • Small Posy of Flowers – Simply mirror the adult bouquets in a smaller, more lightweight design.
  • Wand – This can be an actual wired wand, normally in a heart or star design, with a small floral corsage attached. Alternatively, you can opt for a single flower such as a rose or a peony with ribbon to cover the stem.
  • Flower Basket – Wicker baskets can be decorated with fresh flowers that tie-in with the overall colour scheme.
  • Basket of Petals – In keeping with tradition, your flower girl can scatter the petals as she walks down the aisle.
  • Wrist Corsage – These can be fixed on to a ribbon and worn around the wrist.
  • Pomander – A ball of flowers looks really pretty, but they’re not always practical as they can be damaged easily.
